You shouldn’t believe that you can only learn to lead when you’re at the top. You must try out you leadership and decision making skills when there is little risk because those mistakes can be easily overcome. However, making a mistake when you’re at the top, can cost your organization, and you credibility. (The destination myth)

You shouldn’t believe that people will follow you only if you are at the top. You may be able to be granted a position, but real leadership/ influence must be earned. A high position only gives you an opportunity to try out leadership while still having the benefit of the doubt from those below you. But good leaders don’t need a position to have a good level of influence. (The influence myth)
